MIZUNO JPX 921 HOT METAL PRO
Game improvement clubs are the most popular category of golf iron, they are suited to the largest number of club golfers and are extremely easy to hit. With most game improvement clubs there is often a trade-off in terms of feel and they generally aren’t the sleekest looking items.
With the Mizuno JPX 921 Hot Metal Pro iron set Mizuno have released a set of clubs that keeps the tradeoffs to an absolute minimum. One of the biggest drawbacks in using a game improvement iron for the lower handicaps is the amount of offset usually found on the clubhead. The JPX 921 could well be the solution, as there is barely any offset here and they look much like a players iron behind the ball, albeit with a slightly thicker topline.
The JPX 921Hot Metal Pro features the 3rd generation of their revolutionary Chromoly face and its almost unbelievably thin construction offers the golfer incredible ball speeds throughout the set. This is further improved by Mizuno’s seamless cup face which allows the leading edge to act much like a hinge causing the face to flex at impact. The overall result is a set of irons that is incredibly powerful.
The lofts are somewhat strong when compared to traditional, which creates a low launching and low spinning flight but due to the clever design of these irons, the apex height will still be plenty high enough to allow the golfer to stop the ball smartly on the green. Lower spin also results in less curve so the JPX 921 Pro is an iron that instils confidence to shoot at flags that are tucked away in tricky positions.
These clubs are presented in a very attractive pearl brush finish which not only makes them look incredibly smart but reduces unwanted glare when stood over the ball and allows the sole focus to be on hitting a good shot. Mizuno has added three addition sound ribs into the head of each iron which has substantially improved the acoustics of the club at impact over its predecessor. The strike sound is reassuring solid and gives the golfer plenty of feedback on off-centre hits whilst maintaining good ball speeds.
Mizuno have been masters of the forged iron for a very long time but with the new Mizuno JPX 921 Pro, they have become masters of the game improvement club market as well. If you are considering a change to a slimmer headed iron without losing anything in the way of distance then the JPX 921 Pro would be a superb choice.
