Mizuno ST-X 220 Driver
Mizuno are one of the most iconic manufacturers in all the golfing world and produce superb ranges of golf clubs that are sought after by every level of golfer. If truth be told though it has, historically, been the irons that have drawn the most admiration from the golfing public with their ranges of drivers and fairway woods slipping slightly more under the radar. That all started to change with the release of the ST 200 Series which proved to be massive success and represented a huge step forward in both aesthetics and performance.
The release of the Mizuno ST-220 series of woods see Mizuno looking to build on the success of the previous model with some exciting changes and improvements to the technology and design. They have constructed this latest generation of drivers to deliver the ultimate in efficiency and ball speed on every single shot. The ST-220 range once again consists of two different heads with each offering distinctive characteristics that allow you to choose the one most suited to your needs and play style.
The Mizuno ST-X 220 has been designed as a confidence inspiring, draw biased driver which sees a heavy 20g weight applied to the heel section of the club head, and it is the ideal choice for the golfer than often struggles with too much slice spin on their drives. Aimed at the middle to higher handicaps with moderate clubhead speeds, the ST-X 220 driver produces more spin and allows these styles of players to launch the ball higher and maximise their distance off the tee. In a market dominated by lower spinning heads, the average golfer would actually be better served by slightly higher spin on their drivers, especially those that swing at slower speeds.
Mizuno’s innovative X-Axis technology has allowed them focus weight deep into to the heel which promotes a high and drawing ball flight. The club face itself has been constructed with a highly resilient SAT2041 Beta titanium and features a variable thickness CORTECH design which ensures the maximum possible ball speeds possible are achieved regardless of the contact point on the face.
Club acoustics have become more and more important to golfers over recent years, with many players actively avoiding the harsh metallic sounds that have often blighted metal woods at impact. With that in mind Mizuno’s Harmonic Impact Research has built sound into the design and actual delivers vibration patterns that the better player associates with a solid feel. The Optimised Wave sole that can be found on the underneath of the ST-X 220 also contributes to increased ball speeds especially on shots that have been struck low on the face. The adjustable hosel on all Mizuno drivers allows loft adjustments of 2.25° degrees both up and down, giving golfers the opportunity to fine tune their launch and trajectory.
