SRIXON ZX5 DRIVER
Over the last few years Srixon have started to produce some amazing golf clubs to go alongside their incredibly popular range of golf balls. In 2018 Shane Lowry won the Open Championship using a golf bag full of Srixon equipment which was a step in the right direction for their goal of getting more tour players using their drivers. The release of the Srixon ZX series of drivers see this Japanese brand up their game even further still. There are two different heads in the ZX series the ZX5 driver and the ZX7 driver. Let’s take a look at the ZX5.
The Srixon ZX5 driver is the more forgiving of the two and is aimed more at the mid to high handicappers, and golfers that want a high performing driver that is easy to hit and difficult to curve. With a clubhead that has been flattened out it is a large profile at address and it is extremely confidence inspiring when placed behind the ball at address. Towards the rear of the head the shape becomes slightly triangular giving it a look of being extremely easy to hit.
There is a single sole weight on the Srixon ZX5 driver and it is positioned at the rear of the head to give it a low a deep CG placement. They have also increased the size of the carbon crown which has allowed them to reposition the mass of the driver lower in the head. This increases the forgiveness of the ZX5 and gives it one of the highest M.O.I’s ever seen in a driver.
Srixon have a developed a new energy transfer system for their new range of ZX woods called The Rebound Frame. Behind the initial flex face there is then a rigid section, and behind that there is a second flex point to capture energy that would otherwise have been lost. It is an exciting new technology and promises to deliver exceptional ball speeds especially on centre contact shots. The driver has good levels of adjustability with the loft able to be altered by +/- 1.5 degrees and the swing-weight can be altered via a weight port on the sole which allows the club to be optimised to different feel preferences and shaft choices.
Srixon are going from strength to strength and if you are considering a new driver purchase then the exceptional Srixon ZX5 driver should be right at the top of your list.
